Parapet wall with Glass Balustrade on top of steel beem

Hi All,

I'm trying to work out the best method of securing a new parapet wall around a flat roof/balcony which will be made from minimum 2 layers of concrete blocks laying flat. On top of the parapet - i am planning to use an aluminium profile which will be used to secure frameless glass panels all the way round the parapet wall.

What's the best way to secure the concrete block parapet wall to the steel allowing me to place the frameless glass balustrade on top of the parapet wall? Is there a standardised way this should be done?

Thanks in advance!

Long studs and nuts with a chemical anchor.

ass the risk to the structural engineer!

Agreed to both. A parapet needs very secure fixing, not to a couple of blocks.

Whatever is specified, do not use expansion bolts: they can work loose with repeated movement which  a parapet gets from wind and people.

Our SE said the ballustrade channel must be fixed to the steel. So we have full height glass ballustrade on top of the steel, fixed with M14 bolts.

Still a work in progress.

We have a section running over a brick wall. Solution was to cast a 200 x400mm RC head, tied in to the brick wall below with 12mm dowels. Concrete on face will be covered with alu cladding, same as the steel section.
