Temp
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-65965718 Quote Fears supplying water to thousands of new homes "will pose a significant risk" have led to the first planning objections from the Environment Agency. It is the first time it has objected to new housing over water concerns. The planned homes are all in the south of Cambridgeshire, which could see more than 50,000 new homes by 2041. Some may now be built more slowly. Cambridge Water said it has "resilient, long-term" plans to increase supplies and is trying to reduce demand. The Environment Agency has raised concerns about five planning applications, including at least 4,425 dwellings. This doesn't appear to be a local supply issue but an area wide shortage of water issue. Will make it hard to meet building targets in the area. ToughButterCup
Water companies: .... the regulatory framework within which they operate ... their sharholders behaviour. It stinks. And yet I'm not on the barricades shouting myself hoarse like I was as a student. Too comfortable. Even though I am messing another load of rendering up - less so than last week. Its raining Yay! Conor
I've worked in the UK and Irish water industry for nearly 20 years. Not for a water company tho. I've worked with various ones in that time, some public owned, some private. Some good, some bad. Our view of the companies is totally different from the media's/ public's. Operating and managing a water supply network is like spinning plates. Underinvestment goes back decades before we had private water companies and we'll be paying for that forever. Same applies to Ireland, even more so.
