jayc89
Looking at options for our new double garage. South facing, ideal for PV, but most of the kit builds I've seen all have the doors on the gable end, which wouldn't work for our set up as we need both the doors and the PV facing the same way (south) Anyone seen any kit builds that have the garage doors on the eaves side of the building? saveasteading
Unlikely,as there would be no wall left for stability. the wall would need an extra frame behind it, involving a lot of timber.
Rishard
Most oak timber frame car ports are built this way. I just built one this way for my own garage. I’m a carpenter so built it all, I did get a quote from an oak frame supplier for the same design though. No doubt it could be built from a softwood such as larch in similar section sizes to an oak frame if you were set on it being timber frame. Dave Jones
build out of block and clad it ? Steel over the doors etc probably be cheaper. 4 hipped garages look soo much better I think then a couple a wacking gables. more work for sure.
