jayc89
When I had our boiler moved a few months ago, the wally who did it decided to not re-fit the drain tap. Right now I can manage by draining from a downstairs radiator, but I'll soon replace that with UFH, so I need to install a drain tap somewhere. The best place would be in the understair cupboard, just before the UFH pump, but to actual drain I'd need to run a hose pipe through the house. At the otherside of the understair cupboard wall will be the basin in our downstairs W/C. The waste pipe for that is to be boxed in, could I fit some sort of permanent pipe from the drain tape into my 40mm basin waste? Perhaps using 21.5mm condensate pipe or similar? TonyT
I have at my furthest radiator a T into the flow and return under the floor at each of the pipes goes to a handle operated valve then they join together with another T and 1 pipe goes outside. it let’s me drain the system down without hoses etc in normal operation the valves are closed, on opened when I want to drain it down. This is next to the hatch so it’s easy for me. I copied it from a heating spec we were using at the time in 2004.
jayc89
Something like that would work, but I want to drain straight into a waste pipe, not run anything else externally. Could I use a 22mm compression fitting to join the existing 22mm copper going to my UFH to a 21.5mm condensate pipe and then connect that to the 40mm waste? jayc89
Trying to figure this out again as I'd like to get it sorted over the weekend ready to finish off this part of the house next week. I think I need something like this; But I'm not sure how to connect the Lever Valve to the 40mm (solvent weld) waste. I can get a 40mm to 21.5mm reducer typically for condensate pipes etc, can I somehow join a length of 21.5mm solvent weld pipe to the other end of a 22mm lever valve? Any ideas @Nickfromwales? Temp
Might work but check pipe sizes as 40mm waste isn't 40mm in diameter... https://www.amazon.co.uk/sourcing-map-Reducing-Coupling-Connector/dp/B07KZBDMFV/ref=asc_df_B07KZBDMFV/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=372163213199&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8201592123698109016&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046819&hvtargid=pla-825949270060&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=83288553744&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=372163213199&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8201592123698109016&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046819&hvtargid=pla-825949270060 Edit: actually that says 20mm pipe not 22mm so probably won't work. For a drain point you can accept a compromise here. 21.5mm o/f pipe will actually seat quite nicely into a 22mm push fit connector. So 22mm pipe into one side, and 21.5mm into the other will work. Tbh, you could even use a 22mm compression coupler, with a 3/4” olive in the 21.5mm side. None of this would be anywhere near the chat if this was either a potable or a heating circuit, but it’s to save you using a hosepipe so we can allow a pinch of “it’ll be fine”. Go with a push fit coupler is my advice, but when draining just go easy vs tap wide open at max wallop. For belt and braces you should go into a 22mm x 22mm tundish, and then into a suitable waterless trap (eg so you can see when it’s finished draining off). 1
Nickfromwales
Happy days. Just read it back and it’ll take 22mm pipework. Thank me with beer. 👍
