Evening,

as our extension is more or less ready (waiting for plaster to dry), we started looking at kitchens. Based on previous experiences, friends’ testimonials but also advice from our builder, DIY kitchens AND howdens seem to be the only two good brands in that price category.

I’d luke to go to a Howdens showroom with a ready made plan as we already have the layout / units / comparable prices etc. for our kitchen, but I don’t want to make a fool of myself.

What I do know is that discounts are very much the norm, I’m just wondering what to aim for. I’ve seen 40% being mentioned somewhere, which would be in line with discounts on building materials, for example, would that be ok to aim for?

I know there are many factors that count, but what should I be aiming for?

We went in the other day to Howdens, mentioned our neighbour name, got a 60% discount on a couple of kitchen units and 40% of a brisket join bit.

The invoice was in the name of an unheard of joiner.  They were almost looking for a name, almost anyone's name would do, to give us a discount.

Howdens are very difficult to deal with All this trade custom only is nonsense

The problem is that they use the same sales systems that Ford dealerships used for many years (Pendulum) I’ll ask my boss What figure would you be comfortable with Its normal for them to come back a few weeks later with discounts that Jim has already quoted

There products are fine and most bits are stocked

Get your quote and wait a few weeks for the second call

Don’t forget to mention that Benchmark are also quoting

I had a Howdens account and found their stuff generally good, when getting a quote i always got a B@Q quote (which was usually lower) and Howdens then did better.
