MarkW1979
I'm just trying to think about the plan for trades once my timber frame kit is up. I understand that the roof goes on first before the blockwork skin but can anyone tell me if the frame needs to have time to "settle" once the roof is on (and if so how long)? Thanks in advance! nod
No it’ doesn’t Whilst TF is quite a bit more expensive than Solids They are a contractors dream in that you can get on with the internals as soon as the roof is on Its not unusual for masonry and render to be going on way after the internals are finished Especially in winter

My TF supplier, Potton Homes, put the roof on before the windows go in for just this reason. So they believe it to be the case. I dont know how long between the two operations though. I will find out later this year when they built it i guess.
Thorfun
Our window supplier also asked for the roof to be fully loaded before they installed the windows.
markc
Frame up, roof on, get on with the internals, we used to allow 2mm/m height for settlement of timber frames on openings. UPVC and sliders are really the only things that are likely to bind if put in too early
