Talk to @pocsterhe's an expert on ring cameras.

I had my bowel videoed, an interesting experience.  Not too bad at first, then they pumped me full of air, and bent the end of the camera over, to make a movie of my 'left side'.

Was a painful night at work that day.

Anything cloud based is always begging for a cash milk .

Just get a nvr and a ip camera ( reolink video door bell ) . All quite cheap and cheerful.

@Pocster do you have a Poe reolink video door bell?  Looking for options for an external gate camera/ door bell - I could run an external cat5/6 cable and link to Poe switch and then back to NVR just want to know reliability as it will be outside stuck to a post❄️💨💦🌞.

I do . The only issue is if it can’t pair with the chime the device can hang . So if you can get the chime ( mains powered - not poe ) you could in theory set the volume to low and it would work .

Do the two need to be close together? If I put the chime in the house the two would be around 20M apart.

I’d be surprised you get a reliable signal 20m apart based on my experience!

It was over 20 years ago when i was in the last year or 2 of a "proper office job"  where we had a pretty normal setup, with individual desktop computers with the software needed installed on them, and an office network for data storage, backups and handling the email servers and wed service.

Then one day it was announced "we are going to outsource all out IT to a cloud based service" so all programs, and all data would be served from and stored on an outsourced data centre somewhere.

I remember at the time thinking "what a bloody stupid idea, what idiot decided that was good?"

Thankfully I left shortly afterwards and have been self employed since in charge of my own destiny and free to make my own good or stupid decisions.

Company I have worked for since early 90’s embraced that same concept - all software central - little boxes instead od desktop PC’s all in the name of effeciency and cost saving on IT

It was a bloody car crash and I got to see it implemented and the business suffer the workrate of everyone go down the toilet and the IT dept run around like loons trying to make it work……

18 mths later pretty much everyone was back to proper desktops or new fangled laptops
