merlong
We have just installed a solic 200 after our i boost failed .Because we only have a small immersion we fitted a changeover switch so we could run a electric convector heater when the tank was hot. My question is has anyone done this with the solic but instead of a convector heater I would like to divert the spare power to a small night storage heater
ProDave
As long as it is an old school storage heater no problem, but not one of the current ones with electronic controls. Have you taken the cover off the iboost to see what went wrong? I have repaired a couple of PV diverters (not that one) and the construction does not seem that good, one was a fly lead burned out because it was under sized and the other a PCB track burned out. Some seem engineered rather badly.

Works fine on old style night storage heater. Spoke to company and they heat the office like that when spare energy available after heating hot water tank. I think they have a oil heater. As long as ALL the energy is used for resistive purposes. I.e purely heating a electric bar, not controlling like a timer etc.

merlong
All sorted now thanks for your comments One further thing though has anyone found a way to tell when the immersion has stopped drawing power ie tank hot my old iboost would say water hot and I would know when to divert the power to a heater tia
Wil
No way of telling with a Solic without monitoring the energy consumption. I use a combination of Shelly stuff for this. ‘When solar production is >500W and export is >100W wait 10seconds, check again, then change over to secondary load if still true.’
