New Main Sewer Connection

Hi,

Does anybody have any recommendations or experiences of companies in the northwest that could install a new surface and foul water connection onto the United Utilities network?

We have passed the part 1 of the United Utilities process, we now need someone to dig the road up and connect to the main sewers.

Just a word of advice here, to anyone about to plan / undertake such works.

Your local water authority will have very particular guidelines and specifications for this type of work to be done to. Don't let your groundworkers assume that the previous job would be a good enough template to go off!! Ask the LWA for their specifications and learn them up front, on behalf of your chosen contractors, then be sure to ask your groundworkers to tender for THOSE specs vs what they think will be 'acceptable'. Garnish them with copies of everything and make sure they've read and understood it exactly.

Measure twice, cut once ;)

Yup, you can't dig up the public highway. The local authority will maintain a reasonably small list of contractors who are also approved by the LWA to do these works and in compliance with all pertinent regulations.   That's the route that we had to go as well.  The price was £1K or more than we'd hoped,  but TBH they did a really good job -- far better than the cowboys that the DNO and Anglian water subcontacted to.

Hi Duncan,

Not settled on anybody yet to undertake the new surface and foul water connections. We have been in contact with 3 companies and only one of them has quoted for the work but at 23k!!! I don’t think they wanted to do the work.

United Utilities have a two-part evaluation process where the homeowner completes part one and the contractor completes part two, this is all has to be done before they will let the work be carried out on their network.

We will carry on looking for someone to carry out the work as we can’t do the work ourselves.

Thanks

Andy
