benben5555
The below layout has been approved by Building Control. I'm interested if anyone has used anything in their projects to 'protect' the end of the beam and block floor beams. I've seen some plastic caps that you can buy to cover the ends of the beams and am wondering if these are necessary? I'm probably going to fit a cavity tray where the brick plinth detail changes to a single brick so any water getting into the cavity will be directed out. Any comments welcome. Mr Punter
There is a recent thread with someone using beam and block for an external paved area. If you are feeling paranoid you could paint the beam ends with bitumen. Edited December 28, 2022 by Mr Punter
Canski
Some may disagree but I'd let the moisture fall to the bottom and not bother protecting the ends of the beams. Thousands of houses have been built without any problems.
nod
Yes on the last two builds I laid the beams on a 600 mil dpc Then folded it over the ends onto the slip blocks and laid my first course of block on it
