Self build...built in blinds in windows query

Good question - Welcome to THE forum for people like us -  they look great in the showroom but not sure about longevity. You can usually access them by removing the inner pane of glass and the double / triple glazed unit is on the outside. So servicing is possible in the ones I have seen.

Welcome to the forum. Different options exist, you have manual operation/electrical operation. Blinds within the glass unit, those in double/triple unit with a cavity for blinds and an inner pane of glass which can be opened to access them. This particular option I'm only aware of a couple of suppliers that offer this, however quite a few can offer the blinds within the glass unit. I'm not a massive fan of the blinds inside the glass unit, whether electrical or manual. I just had a client last year who spent £30K for his orangery to be replaced (we supplied the original windows for it, but a building problem required these to be replaced). We supplied new frames but not the glass this time, he wanted blinds (electrically operated). We advised him against it & low and behold 8 month later he was asking us to rip out all the glass units and supply new glass and as he originally had.

They just kept failing and he was at the end of his tether with them. I'm not saying they are all like this but I personally avoid them.

I have a friend with them. Nothing but trouble. His are accessible for maintenance and he’s thinking of removing the blind completely. It’s just one example of course. That said I’ve been in plenty of offices that have them and seen plenty that are knackered.

I have them in my garden office.  Manual ones, and to be fair they don't get altered that much, but they've given me no trouble and I'm a big fan.  No cleaning, very neat, no clutter.

Manual ones can be set individually; when I bought mine the electric ones all acted together - no good for me.
