Hi,

Initially we were going with a pitched roof but settled on a hip instead(think it looks better). Has anyone vaulted a hip roof if so was there much involved? The kitchen/living area to be vaulted.

If you want it all open, I think the only way is a steel frame fabricated to support it all.

Sounds like a lot of extra expense.

Raised tie trusses might give you a lot of the effect for less cash but won't be truly vaulted.

Otherwise you're stuck with collar ties or lots of engineering cals and most lightly steel.

Will look into raised tie trusses, thanks.

Looking at some of your posts and the high levels of insulation you're after I think approaching a truss company to design something like this might work.

high density cellulose scissor truss - Google Search | Scissor truss, Roof sheathing, Rigid foam ...

Spoke briefly with a guy from truss company, reckons I'd get 500mm max with raised tie(depending on pitch)from wall plate, alternatively could go with trusses up to kitchen and finish as a cut roof. Sent on plans, said he'll get back to me. Perhaps cut roof may be best. Am hoping to pump with cellulose as above image. Will see what he comes back with and can share that picture, thanks again.
