Robin2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 So I'm fitting the wall plate for a slate roof. I have zero roofing experience. It needs to be flush with the outside face. Obviously the 200yr old building has a bent wall. The joiner wants it straight for his rafters. What's the best way to do this. Worried about fitting the aluminium gutter... 1
Simplysimon Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 whos design? why no fascia and why the birdsmouth on the inside of the wallplate? 1
George Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Just pick a line and work to it. Agree that is an odd eaves design.
Temp Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Think I would fit it as you have it in the photo. The wall plates must be straight and parallel to each other. Otherwise every rafter would have to be a different length. I assume the absence of a fasia board is to ventilate the cold roof? Another approach would be to have external birds mouth and project the rafters beyond the wall board. I quite like the look of exposed rafter ends.

Robin2022 Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 The stone walls are a great feature so we simply want to see them, and then a slate going into the gutter. We don't want to see rafters or facia boards. (as per original design). The overall roof design is unusual. Rafters will be supported on oak purlins which sit on structural bedroom walls. Walls sit on steels.
