Bricks at Front Door

Hi Folks,

Love this Forum, finally took the plunge and registered. I'm a keen DIY'r and ex-electrical engineer. Looking for some help, I've never done any sort of brickwork. My son recently ran his car into the front of the house (didn't realise it was in gear), see photo. The 4 bricks need replaced and there is a hairline crack in the mortar shown by the orange line. There is no other damage to the wall as far as I can tell. My plan is to use a grinder and chisel to take out the 4 bricks and the grinder again to cut out the mortar which is cracked then replace the bricks and mortar. My question is as the bricks being replaced run into the door opening will this be stable enough when cut out or am I in danger of causing more damage? My other idea was to replace Brick 1 first, let it dry completely then work on the rest.

As I say no Brickie so any advice gratefully received.

Cheers Fraser
