Hi,

As per the title, would you tape all joints on the external house wrap membrane on a timber frame structure?

We will have VCL everywhere internally, but would taping all joints externally help with airtightness?

Many thanks!

Nah, don't bother, as long as it is all lapped properly it just gets stapled.

VCL and tape inside will do the job as long as you're diligent.

Ok great, in which case, would one want to go for a super expensive VCL, or would a £25 roll from Wickes do the job?

Super expensive Intello Plus for me but I’m a sucker for marketing! 😂

figured I only want to do this once so why skimp in the fabric of the building.

do a search on here, there are many threads on the subject.

Another one for intello plus and the associated tapes etc that they do. Thos was just one of those areas where I conflated expense with quality. Not heard a bad thing about intello, just at the pricier end but far from the priciest.

I bought all mine from Germany, saved loads on UK prices - I think they have resumed selling in the UK now the dust has settled post brexit.

Blimey, this product is... expensive.

I got a price for Powerlon VCL170. Twice as expensive as the cheap Wickes, but still four times cheaper that the above, so perhaps I might settle for that :)

On a totally separate note,

On an example of a warm deck roof, how do you install VCL underneath the insulation, and not puncture it?

Equally, how do you install VCL behind plasterboard / PIR and not puncture it?

Are you looking at UK or German prices?

UK, wasn't sure where to even look for German price.

I just did a dirty search and looks like £300 a roll in UK vs £165 in Germany @SuperJohnGmay be able.to give you a steer, iirc he bought his post brexit from Germany so may have a better idea. Not sure what part import duty etc would play.

This is the thread you want. My advice is to spunk the cash make peace and get on with it.

The German prices are infinitely cheaper and then you pay German vat, but they then refund it and you pay uk import duty. I can look out the invoices if required. But for talking sake it was 1500 quid vs 2400 in UK. Madness...

I chose the intello rather than the plus, no need for the plus unless you are using it to hold insulation in place like blown cellulose or similar or need it to be stronger. Get the tescon vanadium tapes also.

Thanks,

I have decided to take a holistic view, and just get a half decent (powerlon and likes) VCL. Not expensive Clima, and not cheap Wickes :)

Thanks again!
