Gurgling noise and waste pipe looks a bit like an S bend

We are getting unexplained gurgling noise when water goes down the drain, either in our sink or in our bath next to it.

 

The waste pipes under my sink looks a bit like an S bend.  See attached photo.  Could that be the cause of the gurgling noise we get?

New or old (i.e. has it ever worked without gurgling?

 

Probably needs an air admittance valve on the trap.

Thanks very much. It has always made a gurgling noise, and was put in six months ago or so.

 

Where on the trap should the air admittance valve be placed?

You have to buy a trap with the AAV built in, sometimes called a silent trap.

But that won't fit, you need a telescopic P trap with the AAV, I have not found one yet.

Got it and the gurgling noise has disappeared.  So thank you.  

 

What surprised me was that the plumber (a gas safe one) had no idea how to solve this issue.  But then again, I am coming across too many tradesmen who are not that good.
