Question Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 We are getting unexplained gurgling noise when water goes down the drain, either in our sink or in our bath next to it. The waste pipes under my sink looks a bit like an S bend. See attached photo. Could that be the cause of the gurgling noise we get?
ProDave Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 New or old (i.e. has it ever worked without gurgling? Probably needs an air admittance valve on the trap.
Question Posted July 9, 2022 Author Posted July 9, 2022 Thanks very much. It has always made a gurgling noise, and was put in six months ago or so. Where on the trap should the air admittance valve be placed?
ProDave Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 You have to buy a trap with the AAV built in, sometimes called a silent trap. e.g. https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-swivel-p-trap-white-40mm/50408 But that won't fit, you need a telescopic P trap with the AAV, I have not found one yet. 1
Question Posted July 9, 2022 Author Posted July 9, 2022 (edited) Is this the sort of thing we need? McAlpine ASA10V adjustable inlet tubular P-trap 1.1/4" x 3" | Wolseley Edited July 9, 2022 by Question
Question Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 Got it and the gurgling noise has disappeared. So thank you. What surprised me was that the plumber (a gas safe one) had no idea how to solve this issue. But then again, I am coming across too many tradesmen who are not that good. 1
