Cleaning

The builders have started stripping the roof and are, as expected, making a right old mess.

So I'm going to start sweeping up every night so it doesn't get dragged into the house and stray screws don't end up in the cars tyres. 

But what does everyone else do/did in similar situations? Is a tidy builder a better builder?

I have a groundworker who is obsessively tidy.  I pay over the odds but the site looks really tidy every night.

Ask them politely 

Is there any chance you can clear YOUR mess up each day before you leave 

 

If you don’t say anything 

They will assume it’s not bothering you and clear up at the end of the job

In my experience the guys that cleared up after themselves did a better job, spent a lot less time hunting for tools and did not lose things. That 15 mins tidying at the end of the day was well spent. 
The ones that left crap all over the place were the ones that had to redo things and were never off their f@*$ing phones.
