cwr Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Hi all I had specified 25mm PIR perimeter insulation at the thresholds, but the builders haven't bothered to fit it at the thresholds. The doors sit on 100mm of foamglass, so it's not without insulation. Liquid screed due tomorrow, should I fit the perimeter insulation this eve or leave as is? Screed will be on top of 170mm PIR, and have ufh pipe in. Thanks
Mr Punter Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 So slab, 170 pir, screed. Is the 100mm Foamglas on the slab?
Russell griffiths Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 If you fit it at the threshold what floor coverings will you have, as you will need to span the 25mm upstand with something. like in my pic, I will cut down the insulation on the inside and span over it.
cwr Posted June 27, 2022 Author Posted June 27, 2022 This is the detail. Foam glass under the threshold, beside the slab. Floor covering to be tiles or carpet. Should be ok to rest tiles on perimeter insulation, but carpet?
Mr Punter Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 The only issue I could see is if your door threshold is not thermally broken and in contact with the screed you would have a cold bridge.
cwr Posted June 29, 2022 Author Posted June 29, 2022 Thanks for the replies folks. Without a good reason not to (still dunno why builder didn't) I went and put in the perimeter insulation. Screed went in yesterday, looks good so far.
Dave Anderson Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Revisiting this old thread as I have the same issue. Prior to floor screed I put in 25mm PIR perimeter insulation, against the patio door frame. Now, as the carpet is to be laid next week, it occurs to me that they have nothing solid to glue the grippers to. So I think I will have to dig out the PIR, fill it with self levelling, and rely on the thermal properties of the door frame to avoid a cold edge to the screed. Is there a "normal" solution to this issue?
Russell griffiths Posted March 18 Posted March 18 A strip of nice hardwood against the doorframe between the reveals, gives a bit of an old school look but I like it and it solves lots of issues.
