motofox Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 Hi My solis inverter is a solis s5 3.6kw with a peak rating of 4000w however it clips at 3.6kw - the export is set to 3.6kw which i get but when im charging the car and batteries id prefer it to be maxing out as ive 4.2kw of panels. is anyone familiar with the solis menus that can help me understand it. thanks
JohnMo Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 Isn't the 4000W just for overcooking. So the inverter is rated at 3.6kW, but you can add more panels (in your case an extra 600W), so in low sunshine periods you get better performance up to 3.6kW. The inverter has Max AC Power: 3.680 W Max DC Power: 4.200 W
motofox Posted May 24, 2022 Author Posted May 24, 2022 hi, kind of, however there is 4.2kw of panels fitted so it should be maxing out at 4000w as the spec sheet says rated at 3.6kw and max output 4000w, so im hoping itsin the menus somwhere
ProDave Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 The rules are bonkers and written by a network that does not really want lots of small scale generation. To remove the limit, even of it is possible with your inverter requires permission from your DNO.
Conor Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 Most PV systems run at about 7-10% loss by the time you get to the inverter output... So in your case in ideal conditions you should see a max output of about 3.8kW. that does not take in to account any shading, sort on panels, efficiency loss due to overheating etc.
