Merv
Hi there, I'm just in the process of having the services put in. I am having gas put in, but don't intend to use it straight away . Cadent have given me a meter reference number. My question is, do i need to have a meter installed even though i wont be using gas straight away. I was hoping cadent would connect to the mains and cap it off in the meter cupboard until required . Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Merv
Simplysimon
you may need to specify you don't want a meter. if you have one fitted they will apply a standing charge
Simon R
We were in the same position and found that Utilita offer a prepay plan that has no standing charge.
willbish
Utilita also do prepayment electricity with no standing charge. I checked with them today and after the April 1st price cap is raised, the tariff will remain. Aside from the first 2kWh of expensive electricity a day, I think it might be the best deal around at the moment.
JohnMo
I found the network provider, installed the line to the meter box. I had to then get the gas provider to install the meter. Only when the meter is installed do you pay line rental.
