is FG35 primer really necessary?

 FG35 primer or standard Cromar bitumen roof primer for priming osb and block work to take Alutrix/ Elodene VCL?  FG35 is 5 x price...is it really necessary

Regardless of what it says on the tin

Primers seal the surface 

They are always going to recommend there own 

Find something cheaper Especially if you are going to need a lot of it

Yes, black jack primer and it seems to work just fine

Cant remember lol, it was a heavy duty one and the primer helped it bond. Its classified for use in high humidity areas like swimming pools. So a few hundred quid, but certainly not the sort of sums you are talking about

I asked our roofer at the time: yes  was his instant reply (with Alutrix). But then - I subsequently found out -  he only ever used FG35.
