matthyde83
Hi all - for various reasons I've built the separate double garage first. We're due to demolish our bungalow and begin the main build in Feb, for which I'll have site insurance. In the garage though are tools, peloton sofa etc. I have it secured and alarmed but I'm concerned about insurance. I'm assuming tools will be covered by site insurance but not sure about everything in there?? Can i insure that separately??
ProDave
This is a known problem. During the time we lived on site in a static caravan, the caravan was covered, but not the contents. I could not find anyone that would insure contents in a static caravan on a private site like a self build, they would only cover a caravan on a recognised caravan or mobile home site. Thankfully Protek do cover caravan contents as part of their self-build policy. The additional premium is actually not too much money in relation to the whole policy cost. As for seperate garage contents, I've also found it a difficult process. I used to have it included within a normal house building and contents policy through a more specialist broker as many standard policies don't cover separate garage contents particularly well. However, that doesn't cover us any more due to the house not existing as it did so policy lapsed.
