Rega Vent MVHR Reviews

Vent axia are a popular choice here and haven't heard that many issues.

I've gone for Salda Smarty units, which are half the price again, but not commissioned yet so can't comment on performance. But two of them were half the price of a single Zehnder... So if they are dung, it's not a disaster.

I used Renson,  Enduro 380 used 90mm semi flexi ducts, it is very uiet and auto senses humidity and Co2 and any other pollution that causes airborne particles and boosts until the levels 'normalise'. So no boost switches etc. Can be operated via an App on a phone. Even on boost setting we can barely hear it. Using larger dia ducts helped I feel as reduces airflow speeds.

Appreciate any experience with this company ?

thanks

Have you asked them what material is used in the heat exchanger core?

Not sure how much it costs but you are buying:

1. no SAP rating

2. no leakage class tested

3. no summer by-pass damper

4. questionable condensate management (tray / fall / material)

5. single skin construction

6. no filter protect the heat exchanger

My potential house builder specified Rega Vent.

I made a point of looking inside the case of one at one of the shows last year. They look truly awful. An uninsulated tin box with a load of untidy wires that look like they are controlled by an Arduino.

Nothing wrong with arduino but not on something that costs as much to install as one of these. Not passive house certified either.

Just my opinion, i did not buy one.

I had the exact same reaction. They seem to be advertised as a 'premium' product too. No idea why.

Thanks guys, what would you recommend that doesn't cost a fortune?

This is for our annexe and I'm trying to keep the price down.  We've had quite high prices for the main house, about £7k, and thought we wouldn't put one in the annexe but now it is coming to it we are thinking we should put something in, even if it is a fairly basic.

I'm intending to install it myself but the steel beams come ths week and I'll need holes drilled through those to get the ducting through. Rega and using 125mm ducting so a large hole to be drilled through

Ouch.

I got a couple of quotes for an MVHR system as a result of contacts made at the NEC self build show.  I found them rather unsatisfactory.  They were happy to give a price but no details, which tells me there’s a big fat margin in there.  It’s like the SIP companies, they seem to work on the ‘you don’t need to worry your pretty (or in my case, otherwise) head about all that nasty engineering stuff, just sign here and trust us (wink)’.  That’s so not me.

So I read up a lot and concluded that designing our own system would boil my head but it would yield better results and would mean different kit from different places, so it would be worth it.  Oh and it would save one or two k.

I think they trade on the fact that most peeps won’t do hard sums and don’t have time anyway, but if you are ok with the numbers and you’ve the time it would pay off big time.   Probably one of the most productive uses of my time in fact.

Seeing past all the hype is difficult, it’s a slick and practiced industry, but I think, with the backing of the peeps on here, we can do better.

My latest thinking is vent axia unit, part rigid duct then manifold then plastic flexi ducts, then in most rooms

about £7k,

I bought two units both Titon (HRV10 and a 1.6) from eBay. The whole system installed was just over £2k.

I would need to do a lot of research to even start to think about designing a system for myself, and this is last minute so not a lot of time to sort it out.  If there are people who design systems then I buy the parts and install that would be an option.

Get a quote from BPC Ventilation. Middle of the road, but they’ll design for you.

Thanks, I will. I filled in their online form this afternoon.
