jen and mark
Hi, after some advice.... We have 70 boards of Kingspan Kooltherm Duct Insulation https://www.kingspan.com/gb/en-gb/products/technical-insulation/duct-insulation/kooltherm-duct-insulation that we bought (very cheaply) to use with our MVHR. We have since found out that it is not needed as it’s only the ducts to and from atmosphere that require lagging and the company we are getting our MVHR system have allowed to supply us with Isover sleeve type insulation. The question is .... have we cheaply 'overspent' on a product that we cannot use or does anyone have any suggestions on where we could use it elsewhere in our steel barn conversion? Save a penny to spend a pound springs to mind ?
crispy_wafer
I would have thought if it's flat board type then yes it could be used elsewhere, I'd have thought the Dimensions and facing play more of a part are where it can and cant be used, and whether it performs to manufacturers claims. What areas of your barn conversion will need insulating?
Dudda
That insulation would be better than the Isover sleeve type insulation the MVHR company intend to use. You could put the Kooltherm on the incoming and external ducts first and then get them to fit the Isover. Hard to have to much insulation. As for other locations the only places I can initially think that you can't use it would be the floor. Everywhere else, if fitted correctly, should be fine. PeterW
This stuff is very good for insulating stuff such as beams and posts etc which a steel framed barn has a lot of.
jen and mark
Thanks for you replies. Have not got round to boxing in the internal steels yet so great shout @PeterW. Will also use as additional insulation on MVHR incoming and external ducts as @Dudda suggests. The boards have a good rating - Thermal Conductivity 0.022 W/mK (at 10°C, time averaged value over 25 years) Please refer to Kooltherm Duct Insulation DoP for full values.
