Tiling brick chimney breast

Hi all,

 

So I have a framed plaster boarded chimney breast, I will be removing all this to open up the fire place for a log burner, the missus wants split face tiles to make the breast a feature.  My question is fire proof backer board to tile on, or tile straight onto brick (assuming they are even etc).  Any advice would be aprreciated.

It will be much easier to spread adhesive evenly on the backer board but quite a faff and expense to do.

Best plaster un level or fit A1 non combustible liner board, but sure any cavity near builders opening between liner board and wall is sealed with bonding or similar to trap smoke / CO

Thanks for the replies, thats put me in the right direction.

Aqua Panel is heavy. I never tried scoring and snapping. I used grit edged jigsaw blades and an old circular saw. 

 

Framework has to be dead level too or it hairline cracks as you screw it on.
