JBB77
Hello all, I recently moved into a property that had an air source heat pump installed in 2012 for which the RHI scheme was used. My Ashp has had quite a large breakdown that I have been quoted £1500 to fix. In addition to this the compressor was replaced at £2500 only 6 months ago. My question is… can I (as the new owner of the property) apply for RHI for a replacement air source heat pump to the existing system? Financially I feel that a new heat pump might make sense but it would make the decision easier if it was covered under the RHI (or clean heat replacement next year) Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated! ProDave
What has gone that costs £1500. Add that to the £2500 already spent on a new compressor and that's £4000 for which you should have been able to just buy a new heat pump (unless it was very large)
JBB77
Exactly! the previous owner paid the £2500 which was for a new compressor. I only found the invoice in the house when we moved in. Now the back up heater has gone which is £1500 to replace. The unit is a Daikin 14kw altherma monobloc. I completely agree regarding the cost hence my question about replacing the unit all together! IanR
I believe you can use RHI a second time, you certainly used to be able to. Quickest way of finding out is contacting an MCS Installer. Surely they'd jump at it, replacing an existing ASHP has to be one of their easiest jobs.
TonyT
I’ve spent a fair bit on repairs on a commercial set up, compressors, gas etc all add up!
ProDave
A shade over £5K for a new one, from a random chosen site so no doubt you could get cheaper https://www.thenaturalenergycompany.co.uk/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=297 Buy a new one and keep the old one for spares?
