Septic tank

Morning everyone, so we are moving to our new home next week and siting a park home untill our renovations are done. just wondered if we are able to plumb the home into our existing septic tank or is there a different way we have to do it.

When I put my caravan (static) on site for our rebuild I tapped into the existing pipe into a cess pit and that worked ok fir two years, just depends on levels (enough slope).

Thanks Joe, do we have to invole building regs or anything?

Depends if the park home will be permanent or not, if not don’t bother, as long as it works ?

I'm suspecting it may end up permanent but we'll go with temp for the time being  I think.

Our 'van was connected into the main drainage run, and into the new treatment plant.  That meant we did not connect the 'van to the drains until the house foundations were in and connected (but we were not wanting to live in it that early) and so building control inspected / tested the whole drain run including the connection to the 'van.

Should not be  a problem. Even with a new digester early in the project, building control were not interested as it was temporary and sensible.

As you have an existing arrangement with outflow then even less issue.

In a surprise visit from HSE, they were surprised but happy with the arrangement. Well, never happy, but 'content'. 

 

BUT no blue caravan chemicals into the tank or you will kill the beasties off.

 

If slopes are a problem you can fit a saniflo into the line and go uphill. That can also avoid constructing drains until you are ready.

Yes, has to be “pink” stuff if using a chemical loo, but park homes usually have “ordinary” toilets anyway.

I thought the pink stuff is what goes in the flush tank of a caravan toilet, not much more than scented soapy water.

The holding tank chemical is available as blue or green, definitely avoid the blue, the green one claims it is okay for a septic tank.

Ah yes, sorry (not used the caravan for quite a while, senior moment) we have a green liquid that does both tanks ?

If we imagine ourselves as  bacteria inside a septic tank. Done that?   Do you think the green liquid would help or hinder our wellbeing? 

Check the small print first. A lot of these chemicals have some sort of bleach in them, or what is the point.

When blue was the only one available camp sites were not allowed to use septic tank or treatment plants to empty chemical loos. Had to be cess pit. With green you can empty them into plants or septics.
