Lighting - Recessed LED lighting strips in false ceiling/curtain track.

Hi,

 

I am thinking of fitting LED strip lighting around the perimeter of some of the rooms in my new build. In a false ceiling downstairs and in the ceiling service void upstairs - not sure of details of plasterboarding yet. I want to give an additional layer of indirect/soft light.

 

Has anyone done this?

 

I am looking for the dimensions of the channel. It will be around 10cm vertically (top to bottom) and will run the entire length of the wall but how deep?

 

I have attached an electrical plan.

 

I may run a curtain on the two large windows behind the dining table so I am thinking 25cm deep for the large kitchen dining living room - would give me plenty of space to put curtains and a strip in the recess.

 

I was thinking 12.5cm would be OK for all the rest of the spaces as I will not have blinds or curtains in them.

Looks Great, it's a bit of a spin from Preston to Donegal though ?. 

 

How wide/deep do people usually make these?

 

I'm thinking about doing the strip the other way round, with the recess/gap immediately beside the window/wall edge.

He told me he was on a budget and gave me 200 quid for the board 

I’d a long day boarding and building the pelmets and most of a day skimming it 

Think I finished down on the materials also ?

Yes that would be my preference also

Yes it's a good idea especially where I don't need curtains/blinds.

I’m looking to do this too, with led strips and blinds concealed at the window heads. My plan was to just put in a 100mm down stand at the window head and plaster flush with the adjacent wall so there is a gap to hide away blinds and lights. It would hide the top of the window, but the windows are pretty big so if won’t be a problem.

Basic question. These led plaster shadow gap beads are all cut and fitted to size (by plasterer/dryliner) and electrician will then come along and fit the led strip?

 

The strip isn't in them when the plasterer is fitting them?

I’m not certain, haven’t got to that stage yet. I would think it would need the cable to push through the profile, then plaster, and add the led strip after plastering?
