Smart home system control - that doesn't rely on a central server

Recommended Posts

I'm updating my heating system.

Likely to replace it with a condensing gas boiler.

Don't have any thermostatic valves.

Any suggestions for a system that I can control each room rad stat?

and HW.

The proviso is that it doesn't rely on XXYY company keeping their servers on for you or that allow open source , documented control protocols that can be controlled by an open source or self-hosted control system?

So are you saying NO to open source anything AND central connection anything.

Right I've answered my own question.

Drayton Wiser and Tado offer an API so that external programs can interact with it. From what I've read Tado allows your program of choice to communicate with it, whereas the Drayton Wise (or Schneider Electric) allows your program to communication with the hub itself. Very useful if the provider pulls the plug on the serve.

Looks like I'm going Wiser ...

Relevant resources for those that want to pursue this as well

Not one I've come across, I'll check it out.

Thanks.

Yep

The hub is independent of the internet . You do need internet access to control it ( runs headless ) . So if internet fails it still works . Have it in 3 HMO’s - it survives there so should be fine in your own home
