Pocster Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 In our original design the bath was on a beam and block floor laid 'narrow' i.e. more beam than block ; presumably for strength. If (when!) SHMBO decides to relocate the bath should I be concerned? . Also some of these nice baths (read expensive and heavy) come in at 130kg! minus water and my weight (assuming I ever get the chance to actually use it). So is the weight an issue if the bath is relocated??
JamieM Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 i don't know the answer to your question but i know that for our wooden joists, building control stated we had to have double joists under where the bath was going.
Pocster Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 Yeah this is what I was wondering. I'm guessing our beam and block arrangement is designed with the bath placement in mind.
Temp Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Average man weighs 83kg according to Google. I'm told some people indulge in a threesome (whatever that is) every now and then so presumably most houses can withstand at least 240Kg :-)
Nickfromwales Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 It's static load, not dynamic TBH, and I've seen baths in terraced houses on 7x2" timbers half rotten and they're still there. Dont over engineer this unless your centre of the house mid span, in which case ( for a new build ) your architect should have designed this issue out. If not them, then certainly your builder / TF company ( whilst doing the structural engineering calcs ).
