Ryan Bazeley Posted March 8, 2021 Share Posted March 8, 2021 Hi, I’ve read and learnt some great stuff on here about my foundations and trying to eliminate the cold bridge at wall / floor junction. I have decided to use Marmox Thermoblock as the final course to fix my sole plate for the SIP panels to. Has anyone here done this and how did they find it? Moonshine Posted March 8, 2021 Share Posted March 8, 2021 (edited) Also have a look at the armadillo product, it may be cheaper. https://www.armatherm.com/products/armatherm-500-structural-thermal-break-material/ back in October i was quoted £20 per 2000mm x 100mm x 50mm unit, where as the marmox is 50% more expensive. if IRC armadillo product could be provided in 65mm heights to blend with brick coursing. I am / did not, and I am looking to build a masonry cavity wall, though to minimise the potential cold bridging i am going to use aerated block to support the internal leaf, as below. NOTE: I have just seen that I have a error in the thermal conductivity of the aerated block and it should be 0.18 W/mK not 0.018! The 65mm thermablock has a thermal conductivity of 0.047W/mK, but I am proposing ~200mm of 0.18 W/mK which in my head is similar enough not to warrant the extra cost outlay. Was the SIP company happy about fixing to them? Hi Ryan, Yes, I used them. Though had great issues sourcing the specific width that I required here in the UK. Jewson's assured me they had them and then of course they turned out to be incorrect width, so I ended up driving to Belgium to get them myself. So make sure you can deffo get the correct size! They were easy to lay. I had aerated blocks underneath, then marmox on top with the sole plate fixed with bolts (chemically fixed into aerated blocks). Just need to be mindful of where to drill through the marmox blocks (have to miss the steel reinforced chambers). This is what I ended up with pretty much: HTH!
