carbitz Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Hello I am replacing a lead gutter lining due to age cracks etc I have removed 3 course of slates from the eves upwards, obviously i can refix the unders / first two courses the usual way with nails, but is there a better way to reinstate the third course than strapping each slate?, its a good 20m so a fair few slates to strap if i go down that route, and personally don't think it will look very nice. Also these slates are quite large and heavy! Any pointers / thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
joe90 Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Have you thought about slate hooks https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/100mm-bright-stainless-slate-hooks-point-driven-316-grade-box-of-500.html
nod Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Slate springs are your best option Tgey hold the slate in place and are barely visible from the ground
tonyshouse Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Copper wire works nicely too. Can be tied round the corners of the slate, near invisibly two loop with four tails two going to each side then twisted to perfect
