Tom
Hi all, prepping the static to move in to in a few weeks and would like to swap the lever mixer in the shower for a thermostatic mixer - not least as it would avoid the children accidentally scalding themselves. Unfortunately the pipe centres are a non-standard 100mm and I cannot find anything suitable that would fit, even on caravan parts websites. Any suggestions? Are angled extensions available - even if it meant the thing sticking out? I've found this: https://www.toolstation.com/thermostatic-mixing-valve/p18520 which I could plumb in to the feed to at least limit the output temp and then use the existing lever mixer to fine tune, but a simple replacement for what is there would be ideal. ProDave
What heats the water? Ours had an 11kW instant gas water heater. It had a temperature dial on it. We "calibrated" that with two settings, "warm" and "hot" On the "warm" setting you just turned the shower hot tap on full and it delivered shower temperature water. We only turned it to the "hot" setting for washing up where it then delivered a slower flow of water that you could just hold your hand under for washing up. I doubt you will find a thermostatic mixer to fit, "caravan" fittings are unique in many respects and domestic stuff just won't fit in most cases. Tom
Ours is a similar setup, gas 6 litre thing by Morco. Looks about as powerful as a joss stick so no power showers for a while... Good idea re setting the temp on the boiler, just a bit of a faff, but if needs must. Obviously need to shed these desires for creature comforts and embrace the caravan ethic! ProDave
Yes no luxuries. the shower flow was in the "barely adequate" category.
Nickfromwales
Caravan things are out there a plenty. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164643835176 One with 45mm centres. I’m sure a bit more googling will turn something up.
Nickfromwales
Just chuck some chrome compression pipes onto a standard concentric valve ? Set the valve a bit higher to allow the plumbing to do its thing and seal up where necessary. Or, can you fit a TMV on the pipework to the bathroom? Does it go underneath and you can just chop one in there? You want to intercept the plumbing before the basin and shower, but not the kitchen sink, ideally. Tom
Thanks Nick. Standard for caravans seems to be 45mm nowadays, can't find anything that's 100mm. Might go for the TMV in the pipework option, will need to have a dig around and see how easy that will be. Thanks both.
Tom
Just to round this off and to help anyone else in same situation, I tried a TMV and it was a bit of a pain, adjusting for temp etc and then got clogged when some debris came through the system. Anyway, found that MIRA do a shower mixer (Minilte EV) that has 110mm centres - there was enough wriggle room with ythe pipework to get this fitted. After the usual amount of swearing and skinned knuckles of course ?
