Hey everyone, Wasn't sure where to post this, but 'Building Materials' felt like the best spot. I'm reaching out to the experienced builders here because for your insights. Having spent several years in the field, I understand the hassle of pricing jobs, a sentiment echoed by my builder friends. Nowadays I am a skilled programmer looking to address this issue. I have a simple, user-friendly solution which will be free for builders to use (I'll explain more later). Here's the gist. Imagine starting a new quote, and the customer's name and email seamlessly import from your saved clients. You can add line items effortlessly. The 'Product Search' feature lets you explore local suppliers, showing prices and locations (see mock-up image below). A simple click adds your chosen product to the quote. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and any ideas to improve, change or refine this solution. I want to code exactly what real world builder genuinely need. Regarding the decision to offer the app for free, the concept is to provide the tool that allows users to price jobs for free. There's will be an option to unlock additional features through an upgrade to offset any cost I incur on the free tool. Some feature ideas include invoicing, a job timer, office calendar, team management, and more. I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on feature ideas too.

I wonder does anyone know anything about this unpronounceable software, Sefaira, an add-on for Sketchup for thermal modelling launched in 2013. https://www.sketchup.com/products/sefaira https://support.sefaira.com/hc/en-us Smart Modelling Envelope Design Daylighting Design HVAC Design It seems to have been a startup in 2009, launched its product in 2013, and then bought by Trimble, the makers of SketchUp. Some of the web pages are broken which suggests that the acquisition might be in-progress. Seems to fall under the heading "BIM". My architect asked, knowing I was a BuildHub-er. Random screenshot:

Some will remember my little tussle with the weather . And while the weather was not to blame, I had simply assumed that July did not bring turbulent easterly gales. Once the mess had been cleared up, I started to think about the lessons learned. One conclusion was that I should keep a closer eye on the weather forecast. After ferreting around for a good while I have been using two Apps (applications, or programs) The Met Office Weather App and Windy.com And while they are both excellent in different ways, neither allows me to define my own alerts. The Met Office App produces excellent warnings, windy.com provides a huge amount of detail - really interesting to view. But in the way of things, I get my head down in whatever I'm doing and often forget to look at the forecast. And when I do, I look for easterly gales freezing overnight strong north westerly gales Is there an app which allows you to set your own parameters for an alert? What I really mean is a free app of course.....

Bless her, she fainted when the salesman told her the price of her heart's desire kitchen. So, being a goodun, she's off on Tinternet designing one herself using the online planning tools you can get. She's working from home today - painful shoulder. And from her office I can hear the odd growl of annoyance ("Could write a better program than this myself"), and the occasional hiss of frustration ("Rats! session timed out, but I've been working on it for two hours") Anyone know of a good bit of kitchen planning software that'll design-her-happy?
