  1. Hi folks. Thanks for letting me join this forum, we're looking forward to sharing information and learning lots! We're just starting out on a replacement dwelling for the bungalow my father built in the 1950s. It'll be our 2nd self build... Or rather self managed build - with some physical input from us all. Our 1st was 25 years ago. This one is to be approaching passivehaus probably and maybe a timber frame build. We also have yet to gain planning and we are fortunate to have a stunning location. We're a very practical 60something couple with a 30 something married son +DIL who we will be sharing it all with. We're planning to build a house which provides 2 separate living areas and kitchens, but shares a utility room and plant room, so it can ultimately be one house when we've popped our clogs! Looking forward to the journey!
  2. Hi All - i think the filters on my mvhr unit need changing. I’ve just read the manual and it says they should be replaced every 12 months but I’ve only been in my new home 5 months and the machine sounds like it’s having to work quite hard. It’s gotten much noisier. My sustem is Vent Axia Lo Carbon Sentinel Kinetic V MVHR system. I tried to hoover the current filters this evening but it’s a really tough task with little success. Does anyone one know where I can buy replacement filters from for cheap?! I’ve looked online and they all seem really pricey. If you have to change them regularly then it’s really going to add up! Any advice would be really helpful. Also, I’ve seen online that there’s different grades of filter quality. Can you really tell the difference? Thanks
  3. I need help For reason's I won't go into, we now have a cracked basin in the bathroom, it was this model and we were happy with it. I've asked if I can buy just a replacement sink from the seller, but they only do complete units, whcih is way too £££ for just a replacement basin. I know they are likely just rebranding a sink and I should be able to find one somewhere, but not had any success yet, can anyone give me some help or point me in the right direction? Any help greatly appreciated.
  4. Hello all we are looking at a nice plot with a burnt down house on it. they are doing sealed bids in 2 weeks - BUT no planning for any replacement house. it's in a conservation zone and looks a complete mess. we are concerned that there is no planning permission (the owners have not applied) for a replacement house. is it possible the planners would want to leave a village plot with a ruined house? has anyone heard of a replacement house of some sort being turned down in this situation? we don t want to spend £££ on a paddock with no possibility of building!! thanks Andrew
