My second PV diverter has now given up. Coming to the conclusion the multiple switching isn't good for their health and they are cheap rubbish. Not willing to part anymore cash on them. So looking to go basic but smart enabled. Control scheme will be something like x kW being generated, battery state of charge is higher than x%, run full 3kW into immersion for 30 min recheck and run again etc Can do the control via Shelly and home assistant - have both already. But need a relay that is happy switching 3kW reliably - anyone got a recommendation? Not sure I would trust a Shelly do that directly Does the control sound feasibly?

Hi, I'm just getting a few quotes back on the installation of an in-roof system of 3.84 - 4.2kWp array of 12 PV panels, facing SE with no tree shading whatsoever but potentially a small chimney flue. I am tempted by the Eddi by MyEnergi or iBooster addon divertor to use any excess electricity to be diverted directly to my hot what cylinder to boost the heat and not waste what's been generated. Are these diverters worth the investment? I'm told Eddi is better because of it's more advanced & potential future linkup with battery storage etc. It's fractionally more money than the iBooster.

Apologies if this has been asked before and if it's in the wrong category, but our M+E consultant is recommending a Vaillant ASHP which I'm fine with but when I look at the Vaillant UVCs, I'm concerned that they won't get the best out of the solar PV diversion. Most solar PV diverters have two outputs, so that once the first output has stopped accepting energy the second output is activated. So if you are doing what most people do, diverting to an immersion in the UVC for hot water, you'd ideally want to have 2 immersion heaters in the UVC, so 1st heat the top of the tank, then when that's hot start to heat the bottom of the tank. The Vaillant UVC has one immersion in the middle of the tank - so only the top half would benefit from the solar diversion. An alternative would be say the Gledhill StainlessLite Heat Pump cylinder but that only has a single immersion heater point which is at the bottom - theoretically better because on a good day you could heat all the tank but not on a marginal day as you'd only warm the whole tank up a bit. Anyone know of a cylinder suitable for ASHPs with 2 immersions - middle and bottom? Thanks in advance for any help. Simon

Present house has a themostatic bar mixer valve. when it works, it is great. BUT... The present house is 12 years old. At 4 years old, the mixer stopped regulating properly, so i replaced the thermostatic cartridge. At 8 years old, it failed again. Although the original cartridge came out easily, I had to press VERY hard (vice) to get the new one fully home, so I thought the chance of getting it out to replace it again was slim. So I bought a whole new bar mixer. Now at 12 years old, it's failed again. So is 4 years the "normal" life? is it considered normal to have to repair or replace them every 4 years? If so I will be lookinf for something different for the new house, something that just keeps working. SWMBO of course blames me for buying the cheapest. That is true of the current one, but not the original. Is it really true that if I spend more, it might last longer than 4 years? Is it a problem with our water? We have very soft water here so I can't think of an issue, but clearly something is gumming up inside. Is it worth digging out the original one, giving it a few days soaking in something like Viakal and trying it again? Ideas and observations please.
