Is there some software that I can use to read the measurements from a DWG file? Ideally free or low cost. Am using Mac/iPad. My architect produces my plans in AutoCad. I have never used AutoCad. And it looks fearsomely expensive a needs a beefy computer. But I’m keen to extract various measurements as I tweak my PHPP model. Would prefer not to need to ask my architect to do this at her hourly rate.

So, my first post.. I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone at the moment. I used to be a CAD Draughtsman in manufacturing and I'm refreshing my skills so that I can possibly get some 'gig' freelance work online. I'm looking at building a large (9.5 x 5m) Summer House in my garden so I thought drawing it up would be a good idea; I'll have my plans building ready and at the same time I can get my CAD skills up to scratch. I would put my skill level at strong DIYer, we bought a 'do-er-upper' about 12 years ago and I've done just about everything on the house - new bathroom, kitchen, garden landscaping, large decking area, fencing, decorating etc. However, this is the biggest project I've taken on by far - I love a project!! I've got some more first draft drawing to do and then I'll have loads of questions I'm sure. I look forward to my time on here and hearing from you. Cheers Jim

I need to do a bit of CAD this weekend, and I am not currently up to speed with any package. It relates to a change of use application for an industrial unit, and my Planning Consultant has advised that a sketch plan on graph paper on this application does not look polished enough and may be an 'in practice' reason why the Council may refuse to validate the application and request more information. What I need to do will be: 1 - Pull in OS mapping purchased online as a layer/background. Currently I have this background as a PDF. 2 - Draw extra bits (eg car park layout). 3 - Have the appearance of a 'professional drawing' when printed out - Frame, Scale, Notes etc. I do not need exact precision on the drawing, just not to trip a Validation elephant trap. 4 - I might want a couple of library elements - eg row of oblique parking spaces - though such can be drawn. Can anyone recommend? Time to do the job will be short, since I have about 8-10 queries to resolve. Cheers Ferdinand

I ask for your help because I've tried for myself for at least one full swear-word-filled day. And I ask because I know there are some CAD whizzkids on here. I have been given a CAD file for the foundation plan. And published to pdf and then printed that at A3 size. (attached) 1615 - 01(1) - Insulated foundation (1).pdf Looking at sheet 2 with an Acrobat Reader, you'll see a series of detailed drawings all assembled on one page. At A4, the page is illegible, at A3 the drawings are more understandable. I will have the sheet printed at A1. I am using AutoDesk TrueView 2017 to view the file. And I can't for the life of me manage to publish or plot or print the small sub-sections of 1615-02 sheet 2 of 2 in an A4 format. Please tell me I don't have to print at A1 and then cut the drawing up?
