Insulhub Isotex Voluntary Liquidation
Kelvin replied to Surfiejim's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
An old friend is an administrator dealing with insolvency cases. When a new insolvency is announced they regularly would put the phones into a holding pattern as they’d get inundated with calls for obvious reasons. However they would set a website page up and update this frequently before contacting everyone involved. -

You’re being overly generous imo. This Jamie character was happily taking money from people days before the administrator was appointed. He would have known for some time the business was not a going concern. I get that business owners can be the last people to admit defeat long after the business has technically failed. -
People’s reasons for doing the ‘right thing’ are irrelevant really. It’s why the Government puts incentives in. If it was left to people to do the right thing purely for altruistic reasons little would get done. My BiL is involved with the minimum unit pricing (MUP) for alcohol in Scotland. They can see it’s starting to make a difference in terms of reducing alcohol related deaths and illness. It’s early days of course and part of a long term study. It’s effectively nudge economics in practice and arguably it’s had the biggest impact compared to any other programme.

It’s the ‘theft’ side of the behaviour that’s the worst especially if there’s no consequence. It’s bad enough to take money and promise delivery several months ago as they might still believe they can trade their way out of it. But to take money literally days before going insolvent is theft. The money has gone somewhere other than its intended purpose. -
Anyone know a good large format tile cutting company?

😂 well done -
Not the present for who? We’ve done 32k in ours in 18 months. It’s mostly been painless and a far more comfortable relaxing driving experience than any car we’ve owned. We cover far more miles than most people so arguably a niche case so most folk would cope fine with an EV. Could the infrastructure cope if everyone swapped to an EV now then obviously not but that’s not what’s happening. If the infrastructure keeps up with demand then it will likely be fine. Will it be ready to meet the Government’s target? I’d say unlikely.

Can one paint a red expansion vessel white?

When you say to look better in the room. Is this in a room you sit in every day? If so, you have bigger aesthetics to worry about/ignore. If not, why do you care what colour it is? -
Who knows. I had similar grief with Octopus who sub out the meter installation. It took 7 months from initial contact to installation. The bloke that did the install travelled from Inverness to Blairgowrie to do it and normally only did 3 phase and had to meet a colleague to get a meter. Be thankful you have at least got a possible call on Friday as folk are being told they can’t get a supply at all!

Hello - Self build on the coast of Scotland

Really nice design. Good luck. -
We are still at the early adopter stage with EVs which is mostly why they are dear. We are really only two generations in and for most of the big car companies one generation in. Even at that some of those are just converted ICE cars rather than ground up new designs. Towing heavy loads is undeniably a challenge as it is for folk doing a few hundred motorway miles every day.

They’ve replied saying they have filed their accounts on time but it could take weeks to update. Is that normal?

There are insurance policies you can take out and I looked at that for the timber kit but cost was getting on for 20% of the kit cost so it makes it untenable for the lowly self-builder. Banks are less eager to help unless it’s their money they’ve loaned you up front. Even section 75 isn’t straightforward. A lot of banks have an automatic response of refusing a section 75 claim and then when challenged try and find any loopholes to get out of it. The biggest one being the number of days you have to make the claim whereas you actually have 6 years.

I understand that and agree so much so have been very open with other company names I’ve dealt with thus far and have posted them on here. I’ve emailed the company in question and waiting on a response. When I get a reply I’ll post the name. Susie has very kindly done a credit check and by and large it looks fine albeit it doesn’t have last year’s accounts.
-
The anti EV nonsense is laughable. All cars have been getting heavier for years generally and the most popular car to buy is an SUV style which are typically heavier anyway.
-
@Alan Ambrose I’ve not mentioned the company simply because I don’t know if there’s an issue or not yet. Once I am more sure of the situation I’ll post up the name. They are well financed based on the last set of accounts. I checked all this last year before going with them and there was no cause for concern. It was just the fact that their accounts are overdue that caught my eye and they have recently set up this new company. My instinct is they are fine.

The house is just the foundations. It gets erected next week. The garage ought to be erected this week but can’t get a hold of them to confirm which day they are starting. I suspect the wind might delay that!
-
PMd thank you.
-
I asked them for them a while back as soon as the kitchen arrived in their warehouse.
-
The other thing I noticed is that one of the directors has recently registered (January) a new kitchen company at the same address.
-
The £1000 deposit was on a credit card.

I’m due to make a large final payment for some goods (kitchen) that the company will store for me until I need them in a few months. They’ve sent me pictures of the kitchen with my name on it and the order number. I checked their accounts on Companies House and noticed that their accounts for the last financial year are overdue. My view is this is a bit of a red flag particularly given the current financial situation. Consequently I’ve emailed them to advise I won’t pay the final amount until their accounts are filed. I suspect they might have something to say about this tomorrow when they get my email. What would you do in this situation?

I know. Each separate stage payment for the kit was under £30k so my intent was to pay a proportion on different cc to get the protection on each invoice. In some circumstances you can have more than £30k protected. -

Quote: "I'm not sure why legal people may come after me. I've only stated information they themselves have made available on their website. I try to stay clear of the muck slinging whenever possible, although my time may come. When my build system and a fair wad of cash goes down the pan after months of planning, I think a little knee jerking is called for, or possibly required....It's been one way to ruin a good holiday weekend". Completely understandable. On the name thing. Buildhub is publicly searchable via search engines so there’s a view you should use a pseudonym etc. -

I meant that. Speedy despatch. Get one of their team on the case. List of customers that have paid money and not got product from the liquidators and contact them etc. It’s what I’d do if I ran the place. -

It is great however it’s not enough. They need to put a plan in place to prioritise anyone mid-build to get them the product they need. They are a big enough company to do this.
