First two solid quotes. Obviously change the inverter out for a G98 inverter and double the battery to 6kW. Anything else I need to be aware of? Planning on putting batteries upstream of the inverter (though no idea how yet - still learning!) thanks all! Bluesun 3.5kw Off Grid Quotation 0820.pdf Bluesun 5.5kwOff Grid Quotation 0820.pdf

I assume that the same applies for a G98 certificate for under 3.68kW inverters? I also assume that I could get correctly certified inverter in the UK (as they seem less scarce!) and have it fed by any PV panel?

I was thinking about having batteries upstream of a 3.6kWh(?) inverter therefore not needing a G99, only a G68(?). https://m.alibaba.com/product/62561537296/5000w-Solar-Panels-5kw-Solar-System.html?

I’m considering PV and batteries from Alibaba. Now I’ve bought many things from Chiba before so I’m aware of the process/pitfalls of importing things. my main question is quality. Surely if they’re CE rated and last for only 10yrs rather then 20years like other brands but are significantly cheeper then it’s not the end of the world? is there anything else I should be aware of? Has anyone else tried this? thanks!

Steps to insulate garage roof….
CotswoldDoItUpper replied to CotswoldDoItUpper's topic in Heat Insulation
Possibly. I’m hoping that drilling out a few 50mm holes between each joist means I can insulate internally and then I can bung my sedum on top? how many holes between each joist; and how should I stop bugs/birds etc nesting in there?!? -

Good point. Can I use a core bit to drill holes through rather then cutting down the whole wall? 2 x 50mm holes per gap? Then I can keep the facias as they are. -
Steps to insulate garage roof….

Thanks @PeterW. I guess option 1 gives a cold roof and option 2 gives a warm roof? if I were to turn it into a green roof at the same time would option 2 be better? -

Hello all. I have an uninsulated flat roof on my garage. I also have about 10 spare sheets of 100mm PIR. I want to insulate the garage roof so it’s not so hideously hot in the summer. Walls are already cavity with 50mm full fill rock wool or similar. The pic shows the roof structure. What else do I need (ventilation/breather membrane etc) to do this? Thanks all!
-
Yes. It would have been much easier if they had just left vertical battens!! on a separate note, it would have also been better if they’d insulated in the void!
-
How will that get past the noggins? Guess those bits will have to be cut out.

I have a 5a outlet that I’d like to change into a ceiling light. To do this I need to run the cable behind battened plasterboard up the wall and vaulted ceiling. Any suggestions on how to do this without a big long gash down the front of the wall/ceiling? Or just cut a channel and fill after? thanks all!

Maths. Not my strong point…

Thanks all, I’m waiting for it to be sunny to see if I can feel the difference between the pool and output pipe. Matt black spray coming up! @ProDavethe pipes are at attached to a bit of leftover caberboard with nail in pipe clips. It only took half an hour or so! @saveasteading were less then 1cubic m so hopefully less of a challenge. Pipes equivalent to approx 1/4 of the surface area. what info do I need to know in order to calculate what the potential might be for the pool temp? I have another 40m of pipe which I could add in series and get (almost) double the temp increase? ive got some leftover 100mm PIR. Should I mount it on this? Any point? -

We decided on wooden windows. They look great and are a big improvement on the 30yr old uPVC things that had blown glazing! order process simple, loads of options, simple to fit. V happy! Yes, they will need some maintenance but happy to do that in order to save the 4-5k over the other alu-clad timber products we were quoted for.

I’ve made something following YouTube videos. This sentence puts the fear of god into my wife. I’ve made (using off cuts and leftover UFH pipes) a rudimentary solar water heater for the paddling pool (yes, spoilt kids!). it’s about 95cm diameter circle. The paddling pool Is 950L when full. Water pumped from the pool with a fountain pump and then returned to the pool at the opposite end. know that I can (potentially!) make it more efficient by spraying black and enclosing in some form of frame with glass/acrylic front but not going to bother if it’s a waste of time. will either have any impact at all?!?

Is it flexible enough to not crack up with the movement of the wooden substrate?
-
Ok, that might work. How thick can it be/does it need to be? Will it not run down any holes in the floor? Then how long to leave to go off? Carpet being fitted in 8 days!

I have an issue that I hope fellow Hubers have solved before. We removed tiles from a plywood floor and whilst the ply is solid there is a reasonable amount of thin adhesive left. We want to lay carpet (double stick method) over this. Do I: A) leave it as is and just lay over the top B) spend hours chipping off all of the remaining adhesive C) remove ply and re-lay new boards D) cover with thin (3mm ish as a guess, advice gratefully received!) ply and screw down thoroughly. Any help/advice/guidance would be great to help solve the issue! Thanks!

Nice neat job that! Enjoy the expander foam and foil tape. Tip: get the wide stuff, saves having to tape twice (both sides of the joist) and just go with one big stripe that covers the whole lot! -

Welcome! We also ripped up floors and insulated between joists etc etc. it’s fun! Good luck!
