  1. So 58L in old money Thanks D
  2. This looks like something you would see when 007 is walking through a russian nuclear plant. How big have you gone on the buffer tank? And Thanks by the way @PeterW
  3. Just a quick question @Nickfromwales in the small buffer, plate heat exchanger plan are you still talking about using the W Plan to deliver higher heat water from the ASHP to the UVC for DHW? Thanks Damian
  4. Thanks for that. I don't think i'll be able to go down the CAD route at this stage. Hopefully there is some sort of basic tool that is freely available. Thanks
  5. and just out of interest what package did you use for your plumbing layout drawings @JSHarris
  6. Are you throwing your name in the hat for a trip to Sunny Northern Ireland? @JSHarris
  7. This could get ugly
  8. @Nickfromwales hows things in your neck of the woods? Dont suppose i could get you on the Ferry?
  9. Hi Guys, Quick update. Plumber #1 - Has gone fully dark. Not a word Plumber #2 - has had my plans for 2 weeks and says there is quite a bit of work in getting a proposal done, will need another few days. (I'm guessing that means he hasn't looked at them yet and doesn't want me bothering him for another week or 2) Plumber #3 - Referred by a mate, sent me 1 text and hasn't responded to anything else. Plumber #4 - Even my Da was getting pissed off so rang around hopefully meeting him some night this week (Hopefully) Other than that i'm none the wiser, except to say i'm sure my quote when i eventually get one will reflect the couldn't give 2 shites attitude i've had so far from the local guys. Thanks Damian
  10. Again light clicks on, So even though we are going with W plan you are still suggesting to max out the potential of the low temp tank and use it for cold water up-lift. I was thinking that approach was to be abandoned. I didn't know you were a martini man! all that talk of fire, meat and beer! Really appreciate your help!
  11. There you go i had no idea there was a requirement for anti-freeze. You learn something new everyday. Does anyone want to buy a house? First fix electrics are done! Plumbing not started.
  12. By finished if you mean haven't really started then yes. First plumber went off radar, then second plumber went off radar. So my entire plan so far is on this thread. But in very general terms. My understanding is ASHP Feeds low temp UFH tank (300l Buffer/TS) ASHP Feeds DHW tank (300L UVC) at higher temp. DHW is boosted by solar PV/Direct electric immersion DHW and UFH plumbed in a W Plan According to @PeterW The design that came with my ASHP is not correct so i'm hoping i can get a drawing of what changes would need to be made. @Nickfromwales has convinced me to keep it simple. If i ever get speaking to an actual plumber face to face who is willing to take on my job i'm hoping they will understand what i'm on about.
  13. Gotta love the stress of a self build!
  14. I've been called worse this evening. I'll give you a clue. First word is something you play football with, second word is something your wife carries around with her. And they are also dumb vessels!
  15. are you calling me a buffer tank?
  16. OK, so the terms buffer tank and TS are interchangeable in this situation? I'm all for keeping it simple so these plans are sounding good. Thanks for all the help @Nickfromwales and @PeterW Still waiting for the plumber number 2 proposal so i'll stick it up here when i get it. Thanks D
  17. Hoorah, i understood that bit. So i'll outline by Primary school understanding of what i need to do. 2 tank system piped using W plan. UFH tank will be a 300L buffer tank. calling for heat based on room stats with tank sitting at 32-38 degrees (No need for TS as no need for pre-heat coil) This will have dual 3Kw immersions as backup for ASHP outage. DHW tank 300L UVC pre-heat with ASHP to 45-55 degrees (CoP dependant??) with Immersion fed from PV and direct electricity. I'm only going to have 2 stats in the house. 1 downstairs and 1 upstairs. 1 stat per manifold. Does that sound about right? D
  18. I put this through google translate but it had less of a clue than i do.
  19. Great stuff, thanks for that. Yes if you could find drawing that would be great. Thanks
  20. Thanks @Nickfromwales I'll have a look through the ASHP docs and see what the options are for DHW. I will attach the Manual because i have no idea what i'm looking at. Hopefully the controller supports the 2 different temp outputs. @PeterW you have the same unit? Can it be switched? I know they were selling some different options? Did you get a manual you could share with me? The vast majority if not all of our DHW usage will be after 7pm in the evening. Potentially earlier in the evening once kids are doing sports etc. The very rare occasion would we have showers in the morning. Only showers for 2 adults at the moment and bath for 2 kids maybe 3 times per week. And its only half full but they will grow so 4 showers per day. Will have a manual boost for the immersion if we are going to have visitors. eBay_Ecolane_Manual_(1).pdf
  21. Yes, i'm with you. From my limited knowledge that was my thinking. I have also heard of people plumbing the ASHP directly into the UFH but i'm not 100% as to if thats a good idea or not.
  22. No need to apologise, this is kind of the whole point. So fresh slate. Forgetting the stove and just accounting for the ASHP and PV. Best option. Your back of a napkin design if thats ok @Nickfromwales
  23. So our first choice plumber has become unresponsive. Took the plunge and engaged another one and this time the guy has experience of installing ASHP and MHRV so i'm hoping he actually knows something about them and not just a bandwagon jumper. First phone call went something like. Me: I was thinking of going the 2 tank system, one for UFH heated by the ASHP and a second DHW tank heated by pre-heat from ASHP and Immersion (PV & Direct Electric). 50/50 on stove with back boiler Plumber: I wouldn't bother with 2 tanks just plumb the ASHP directly into the UFH Manifolds and then have the pre-heat going into 1 DHW tank. He recommended going TS for the tank, in the case of additional heat sources. But advised on going just room heater for the stove. Asked for plans and would put together a proposal. Haven't got that yet but what do you think about the first comments? @Nickfromwales
  24. Did they talk money?
