exactly the roof isnt on, we agreed a month ago to wait until slated. and hes went on his own back and done it
-
in all honesty they are meant to have heavy duty poly on the windows keep[s blowing off everytime we are up. also my biggest concern is the rockwool getting wet? the roof isnt on and the weathershield is weatherproof not water proof. and i have seen it with my own eyes it is pissing in at times. at the end of the day im looking for fellow builders/ trademens opinions etc.
-
are you thinking its ok with the rockwool application? without the roof on, im just looking for peoples input really. its just we brought the potential of water ingress to the builders attention and he said that "were right we wont do it" suddenly now its in hahaa so whats changed
-
not 100% as the upstairs was wet at the weekend, although it was a bad storm. im really not wanting to take the chance, but i just wondered what others opinions were

Hello Group, im sitting here wondering if im stupid or my builder is so hopefully someone can help and educate. my wife was at our build today and the builder has his guys applying the 150mm rockwool on the walls downstairs - but we have no roof or windows in yet? is this not silly? the problem is its wool then vc foil so if he puts all this on the we wont see if the wool is wet.... there is sarking and roofshield(green stuff) but literally no slates yet?? he was trying this a month ago to put in the wool but we agreed it wasnt pratical due to the fact there is no roof on... but now he is doing it anyway so im left wondering if it is fine why did he stop it a month ago and if it isnt ok why is he doing it now? thanks!

yeah they have been pretty good so far(as far as i know) but we do go up quite alot and he welcomes us on site... i will change my opinion if he ever says you cant come on site without a chaperone haha
-
i spoke with the BCO, he wants photographs which i have and send them over... but he doesnt seem like he wants to get too involved, but he will give his opinion anyway, but unless he is stevie wonder hes surerly seeing what were all seeing. 20mm gaps at places haha
-
possibly yes, that doesnt sound like a bad idea... i have to imagine the BCO would be on side if its not correct practice to fit the insulation like the way he has.
-
i have had the discussion stating our unhappyness and he has said its fine... so im wondering what to do next to prove my point... either BCO who may and should know and tell him it needs done or kingspan technical department to email me with proof.
-
any whatever i decide to charge as my hourly rate haha
-
100% understand... but im not meant to really be on the tools lol im paying the builder for taking control
-
walking away from a full house build due to the fact they have messed up insulation, you really think that is a possibility? (im saying this as a genuine question) this is meant to be a full build from the builder a turnkey like package, not me controlling trades. im just a tad aggrieved because im paying good money for what looks like 80% a job lol. im unsure if filling the gaps will help as others on this thread are stating it wont really help.
-
im beginning to think if i let him slip more and more what next? this is only by chance i caught this as well....
-
so i spoke to the builder today and he said the insulation is fine..... i know it isnt fine whats the next step?? building control? he also says the insulation with the damage is acceptable aslong as its not all the way through..... Crap!

Hey, Can anyone recommend a log burner? We seen online that your meant to do a calculation for your room size... e g height x width x length) so we have a large living area, kitchen, diner its about 7.5m by 7.5m at 2.4m high then divide it by 14 so i think we need a 9 or 10kw log burner. No idea how much wood that would need and were not sure if its worth the initial outlay then the running costs but we want to have an idea from anyone who has had one. Thanks in advance

I think the BCO here accepts alot of photos so does our seperate private building surveyor(warranty providor).... so if there is any problems do they have to get involved because after all they have signed it off as good? After we are built and have the heating on i want a thermography camera survey to make sure not many leaks. Maybe over kill but hey ho

Hi Joe, Its changed slightly now kingspan but there is 150mm kingspan then the foil then 30mm kingspan.... do you think the foil should be before the 150 KS? Would that not be a nightmare to fit as its in the rafters?
-
I think thats what it is, we used roofshield quite expensive breathable membrane.
-
-
Hi, thats what i was thinking, i will tell him myself he either fixes it or he doesnt get paid. From what im led to believe there is slate on the outside then roofshield(i think its breathable) then i think a 50mm gap then 150mm kingspan and then vc foil thrn another 35mm kingspan. Does that sound about right?
-
-
So it doesnt look too bad? I just assumed it was required to be as tight as could be... plus i think its getting vc foil next then 35mm more pir on top im hoping keeps us cosy!

I dont understand what you mean above or below?
-
How do you mean above or below mate? Its meant to be 150mm insulation then, vc foil then 30mm kingspan over than?
