hey group, Has anyone got any insight to wind turbines? cost? returns roughly? me and my partner are looking at solar but it just dawned on us(and we know wind is more expensive to buy) why dont we try wind as i seen you get 2kw and 5kw systems, so were looking into the prospect of them maybe depending on initial costs etc. Thanks in advance! Mike_scotland replied to Mike_scotland's topic in New House & Self Build Design
makes sense but i will be unsure what the how water will be until were in i suppose, im just hoping its relatively accurate for the KWH usage, but i have no idea what the monthly KWH would be for the ovens, hob,TVS etc which i will all need to add into the mix. -

how accurate are SAP Calcs?
Mike_scotland replied to Mike_scotland's topic in New House & Self Build Design
Ok Mr Punter Thanks, I am pretty sure the ASHP will be more efficient than 1.7 as the SAP assessor has put in..... what happens once the house has been completed do they re evaluate the SAP or does it become a EPC? The assessor also has no heating June July August and Sept - not sure how accurate that would be in September but maybe... -
Hi Group, Just wondering how accurate SAP calcs are? basically the SAP is saying i will require 8500kwh per year for my Heating and my Hot water..... thats not including TV,dishwasher etc i dont think so im wondering how accurate they are? we are building a 230m2 house so thats what the SAP is based on i suppose along with the insulation and all that. i also noticed they have made the ASHP (Which we are using to heat our home) at 1.7 efficiency (Which i think might be actually a little low im hoping for atleast x 2 efficiency but maybe more on beter days) with the rising costs in elec im a little worried if the SAP is accurate or not? were going to be paying about 22p per KWH but its looking like the CAP will rise again so who knows the the costs will be. Thanks in advance - any additional info anyone needs just let me know

Bathrooms, bathrooms bathrooms!
Mike_scotland replied to Mike_scotland's topic in Building Materials
yeah totally get you mate. i think from what i have found is online there are all the TOP brands have alot of bad reviews so its so hard.... i think its a case of if your unlucky enough to have a problem(nothing is perfect) they people with the problems put bad reviews yet if its perfectly fine they dont leave a review. i have found that; Grohe Duravit Armitage Hudson Reed Rope Rhodes Villeroy + boch all seem to have a reasonable standard to them and good reviews. -

i think maybe the key could be picking mid range things or even the above mentioned Geberit i found that brand on victoria plumbing.... so maybe buying from a cheaper website but better branded things?. -
Good morning group! again i ask for assistance or a point in the right direction from this excellent forum and its members! me and my partner are almost at the stage of picking bathrooms and we got recommended items from Victoria plumbing(online retailer) from our plumber but we have looked at some reviews and to be fair they have a fair amount of good ones and a fair amount of bad reviews so seems like hit or miss!! can anyone point us in the direction of good quality bathroom furniture and other bathroom products? we know this can vary massively in price but just looking for ideas of what other self builders etc have used Tiles help also would be a good if anyone can recommend any websites or places for tiles!, we see B+Q are pretty cheap but heard there sizing can be way off! were thinking of trying CTD or topps. thanks in advance!!

Is that good enough do you think m8?

Hey group, Can anyone recommend a good level of acoustic insulation? Currently on the building warrant its 25mm acoustic wool but i imagine thats the minimum/basic between the rooms, im hoping to get some good sound proofing. Thanks in advance!
-
Hey, When do you get a air tightness test carried out? Is it at the end of the build or before plasterboarding/plaster etc? Just thought if you test and the plasterboard on and you fail it could mean ripping it off to find any leakage areas.
-
should i tell him its 400mm kingspan haha! get a A rating. ?
-
BCO came back and said it should be better but isnt the worst and it wont cause much leakage and wont cause the house to be cold LOL! this is what your up against lol
-
why do i bother with 8k worth if slate then if i can just use roofshield? it shouldnt leak but thats my point, it is and there fitting insulation.
-
i appreciate the input though mate, im just looking for peoples opinions. i would reluctantly accept the wool being in with no roof if we could see any damage/damp/wet but i dont think we will they have it all foiled in.
-
no it isnt leaking alot just is leaking... and i know it is a building site, but my problem is if it gets wet the insulation and its all sealed up how are we meant to see this? we cant x ray the whole house.
-
the roof isnt tiled or slated though thats my point?
