ASHP low pressure help pls
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Thanks @Nickfromwales Also I did some more troubleshooting. I just turned on the ASHP for hot water. The tundish only leaks when I turn the hot water off. So it heats up fine but then when I turn it off (turned it off at 45 degrees), the tundish starts leaking. It is definately cold water. -

Yes hot water was being heated at the time. And no, I am not sure it was cold at all. Can you send me the link of what is needed and I will order now and ask the guy to fit them. He may not given that they haven't quoted but if it is something he can do at the same time then hopefully it won't be a problem. What do I ask the guy to do, just so I am using the right language when I ask him to do it. Annoyingly I paid the deposit so those tanks have been ordered already. Is that the temp on the hot water tank? Like the bottom under that white cap, if so we adjusted that a few years ago. Our hot water temp never goes over about 55 degrees. It comes in at the utility and all the tank and ASHP stuff is in there so presume so. The Airbnb is a seperate but attached ensuite room to our house so any issues impacts us and them. -

We can't leave the ASHP on for our hot water. I wouldn't feel confortable to be honest. Water was literally pi$$ing out of the tundish. Someone asked if it was hot or cold but I can't remember. I think cold.. Yes and no. They did but in the hoo haa of the wrong email/billing issue it went to the wrong email address. I was then able to ask and get this resent which I posted on here. Leaking tundish is on our Gledhill water tank. The only pressure gauge I can see is the one on earlier photos and pictures. I spoke to the company today and have booked them in, hopefully Wednesday. I know @Nickfromwales you will be cursing me but frankly we are stuck. We have visitors later this week and an Airbnb booking so it is a case of sucking it up because the timing could not be worse. We used the gym showers tonight but we dare not turn on the hot water ASHP and have a lot of water coming out. So this is what I am going to ask: 1. We want to keep those expansion tanks. Told they need replacing but saw no evidence of this. We want to check them/see this (if they remove them is there a way of checking they have failed if they remove them)? The service form says they need replacing so this indicates they have failed. Do companies routinely replace them or pump them back up?? 2. We will explain what happened with the pressure dropping to 0, how I topped it up and the leaking tundish. Ask them to check valves are not faulty. -

I will ask to keep the old ones. I am going to ask lots of questions when the company comes round and ask them to show me the burst bladder. I will also raise the other points on here people mention to be sure what they doing will fix the issue. The quote says 50% deposit before they come so I will have sort that. We are kind of stuck really with no hot water.. -

I think we will just get them sorted for now. We haven't paid for services for a few years so I guess this is payback. I am going to be here and will ask him to show me them and explain everything too. Would we have caused this by using the solar to heat our how water and not having the ASHP heat our hot water/turning it off for a large amount of time? -

Thank god we have no sun forecast! The Solic diverts any excess but we likely are not getting any excess but were yesterday as that is what gave us majority of hot water then 🙄 -

I think we may be wise then getting the company back who serviced it/quoted on the basis we could really do with hot water this week! I only just managed to heat the water to 42 degrees when I noticed the leak so until it is resolved we are kind of stuck and solar isn't doing much! Gym it is this week to use their shower... -

Tundish is definately leaking, a lot! Are we ok to have our ASHP heating on still and just avoid using the ASHP for heating out hot water? -

I take it it is likely those two white cylinders do need replacing then? -

Spoke to soon! Definately leaking. Turned water off on ASHP.. presume we shoulsld try and avoid using the ASHP to heat our hot water and probably try and get this sorted asap. Maybe I was too quick to doubt the first company then. 20260111_143031.mp4 -

Turned water on. Watched it for 10 mins with torch looking for any signs of a drip and nothing so far. Let some tissue in and will monitor over next day or so and see if there is any sign of any water. -

Hot water had not been on since yesterday as I turned it off on the ASHP as I wanted to manually switch it on today and watch to see if there were any leaks from that tundish. Haven't turned it on yet and just noticed the black pressure needle has dropped - photo taken 1.10pm(ASHP heating came on at 1pm). Is this normal? Edit to say, it creeped back up again (photo taken below 35 mins later at 1.45 so maybe just dropped as heating came on/is on now..) -

I don't think he did, that was one of the things the quote included... service did not include topping up glycol. -

Is it this that is coming from the Gledhill tank? It feels dry at the moment. I can test it later and turn the water on after I have had a bath. Cant see anything else like that. -

It was our first time using this company (unfortunately there are only about 3 companies localish who service/install heat pumps) and we are definately going to ditch these... Any of your 'normal' plumbers this end don't seem to know ASHPs (our experience of plumbers is they don't know plumbing either)! So the main players are renewables companies that 'specialise' in renewables like heat pumpd, solar etc. -

So, checked this morning and everything all fine since I added pressure back. Heating and hot water working, not noticed any dips in the black/red bar thibgys when the heating or hot water is on or off. Since I added the pressure back I have made a few checks throughout the day today and yesterday when heating is on and off and hot water is on and off. No change. One thing I did notice when having a good nosy around is on the bottom of the Gledhill tank. It is not dripping or but there was a copper wet mark on the floor and when I touched the pipe I got a rusty damp finger. The ASHP only does the hot water for a few months of the year as the rest of the time the Solic 2000 diverts for our hot water and for around 8 months a year the hot water programme on the ASHP is turned off completely. At the moment we just have the hot water ASHP timed to come on for an hour during Cosy tarrif late afternoon but on days like today when it has been sunny all day our water is pretty much at temperature so the ASHP likely wont need to heat it much if at all.... -

It is on during Octopus Cosy times so I will check around 11am tomorrow (it would have gone off at 7am so will have cooled off). -

Oh god, sounds like this company do not know what they are doing! For now, I have added pressure back and everything seems to be ok so far. Heating and hot water is on at the moment given the cold snap. I wonder if I am better getting a different company out, explain everything and go from there.... -

They didn't say but presume just one person. I may get some other quotes or just get it done. Probably the cost of the services we have not had! Just wonder is this likely to be a regular issue or what is the cause of it? -

No, it was an RHI install. I think it was 3 or 4 years since our last service to be honest! -
