  1. I bought around 60 of the pavers and they look great. I dry laid them abutting to each other without a gap and they naturally work out to have a 2mm gap between them. I laid 26 against the long side which came out at 1300mm. For planning purposes I’ll just assume they are 50mm wide.
  2. Hi everyone, I'm thinking about getting some Bexhill Clay pavers from here https://www.chelmervalley.co.uk/paver-brick/brick-pavers/bexhill/ I have never laid pavers before but would like to lay a path very similar to the one in the attached photo: The pavers are 200mm x 58mm x 48mm and I will be laying on the 200x48 face so they will be 58 high and 48 wide. I want to start planning the layout but need some advice on how to plan. I'd like to lay them with as small a gap as possible Do I assume that there will be no gap in between or assume a small gap, say 2mm between? Looking the photo there are 12 pavers next to a 600mm slab so that equates to just over a 2mm gap. I guess it's a matter of laying some out and seeing what works but I just wanted some sort of plan before starting. Many thanks, Ed
  3. Hi, I’m going to lay some concrete edging (915mm x 150mm x50mm ) in the next few days. I’ve seen a few videos where the concrete is quite dry under the concrete edging blocks and then wetter for the hatching. Is this what I should be aiming for? Many thanks, Ed
  4. Hi Everyone, I'm going to be installing an Aco channel drain (Raindrain) soon. I will need 3 and a bit sections for the job so I will have to make a cut in one. My question is can I make a cut anywhere along the section then fit an end cap to it? I'm hoping so but It wasn't clear from the docs etc. Many thanks, Ed
  5. Thanks for the info. Having thought about it I actually quite like the idea of having two drains with a fall on the horizontal and vertical. I think that will better catch the water. The water goes into a swale at the front of the house, which is basically a ditch.
  6. No, not at all it's just I've started the project as a complete novice so learning as I go I guess. I had planned a patio fall towards the drain (1:80) but not along the length of the drain as I thought the rain would tend to run off the side of the patio. To stop this I guess I could install another channel drain at the side like in the attached image? What do you think? Thanks for your help. Ed
  7. Hi! Thanks for your post. So would you also put the same fall on across the patio too? I guess I'll have to otherwise it'll look a little weird?
  8. Hi everyone, I'm building a patio from Indian sandstone slabs and have planned to install an Aco RainDrain channel drain at one end of it (see drawing). The fall is 1:80 towards the drain. The drain will be about 3.3m long. My question is do I need to have a fall on the aco drain? I wasn't planning to have a fall across the patio only towards the drain. Can someone give some advice on how this should be done? I guess I could put a small fall on the drain itself and not the patio?? Many thanks, Ed
  9. Yes I think after some thought I will do option 3. Thanks for your post. Ed
  10. I'm currently in the process of building a patio area and coming to the end of the excavation. I have a bedding area around the patio of about 800mm deep which will be planted with plants eventually (see my sketch for an idea of what I'm aiming for). I want to maximise the space for plants so don't want the subbase to got too far into it. When initially designing the patio I had in mind design 1 in the picture. I was just going to excavate, put the subbase down and then put the mortar and slabs on top, all in line. After consideration I think the edges might be susceptible to moving as the subbase will only be constrained by top soil. A way around this would be to go to option 2 by extending the subbase. I suppose a more belt and braces solution would be to put some concrete edging blocks to constrain the subbase and not allow it migrate etc. This is shown in option 3. What are peoples thoughts of the most suitable solution bearing in mind that I don't want to eat too much into the planting bed? Many thanks, Ed
