Hi. Quick update. EPS Plumbing in Falmouth installed an "Ideal" 8kw heat pump, a pre plumbed 300ltr tank and connected it to my underfloor system using the manifold supplied me. Providing the correct information to satisfy the Grant was a bit tiresome but I was able to explain the property name changes and title inconsistencies and they seemed to have acted like real humans. The heating is working great. I highly recommend EPS to anyone in this area. Cost to me. £2100..

With National Grid it's done online. I googled G98 examples and found a few things but it's still a bit confusing.

Hi all. I have been looking at sidestepping the use of a MCS registered installer for my PV panels, for 2 reasons; I'll save approx £800, which is very appealing and I can get it done more quickly by my electrician. Octopus now offer a program which doesn't require a MCS certificate. Acceptance isn't 100% garrenteed and it's £250 (£150 back it unsuccessful). So this avenue is worth exploring, I think. The one problem is the G98 form ! Have any self installers tackled this form themselves and listed themselves or their sparky as the suitably qualified installer? If so what did you put in the installer field? Is it just the Inverter that I need to list as the generation device ? Both the panels and battery go via the same Inverter. Many thanks.

I've been on this MSC costs thing now for a few weeks. I've learnt that it's a lot of paperwork and new builds complicate things even more. Some installers are registered themselves and do the paperwork themselves. Others have admin staff and some use a supplier as an umbrella company. Costs vary depending on which method they use and how much money they think they can add on- Market economy and all ! I've had quotes of (plus the grant) £4500 for 7kw to £2300 for 8kw. Fully installed, 300ltr cylinder, connected to UFH pipes (in slab already) fit UFH manifold. 5 year warranty. The 8kw quote now means it's cheaper to get a heat pump installed than gas. This was the idea behind the grant.

Great find ! Thanks for sharing this information. This looks like a smart niche that Alto have set up. Do you know if this is available nationwide? Mitsubishi offer a Coastal protected unit for salt damage. I have a concerns about unit corrosion due to location. I think I'll contact them.

I feel that these grant harvesters are conmen too and I'm not sold on ASHP's. I have therefore asked my sapps guy if I can go to gas. Yes he said. So I phoned around today and I've had my eyes opened. LPG is cheap and pretty clean for now but down the line they expect Biopropane and Dimethyl ether to be available for off mains gas systems. All new systems are either hydrogen ready or fully able to take Net Zero alternatives. I think I can get an underground bulk tank, boiler and install for a lot less than the ASHP even after the grant.

This is all perfectly correct. It's the MCS guys that are on their own gold rush. The everyday plumbers are not to blame. Those who have invested in the training and certification are cashing in, which is fair but there is a point when a fair return trips into a rip off. It's Tax payer money after all.

I contacted Octopus. Unfortunately, they are unable to quote in my area currently??!!

Plumbers with MCS are limited around here. And my heat loss calculations have been carried out by a firm recommended by the architect.

We have one. Geberit. I love it. We are now building a new house and I'm looking at getting one for there. My wife thinks it's ridiculous but I'm totally sold on it. Better Bathrooms do a good value one that I'm looking at. Reviews seem good.

Thanks for all your great replies. In conclusion: The heat pump grant of £7500 isn't going towards helping people decarbonize as it was planned. It's just allowing the plumbers to jet off to the Caribbean 4 times a year instead of twice therefore increasing carbon emisions. And, I'm in the wrong business..

Hi All. I'm a little stuck getting quotes due to lack of MCS certified companies in my area but I'm hoping someone can clear up my confusion. I've costed the equipment to install the heat pump and cylinder at £5000 ish maybe £6k with expansion tanks/ pipe etc. The installer said 5 days max (1 guy) to install. He quoted £11k which works out at over £1000 per day in labour. I have clearly missed something or am I just in the wrong business?

Help Please. I'm just trying to confirm that I actually need a 3 phase inverter. New build- Cornwall. I'm getting confusing and conflicting advice. I thought I'd come to the Hive. I have 3 phase to the property. 7.2kw of solar and I'm future proofing for a battery. ASHP and car charger are spec'ed. I'm looking at a Fox ess 8kw hybrid 3 phase inverter. Is this the correct inverter? I've got an MCS company to commission it and sign off but they have adised me to aquire the components. It's a friend of a friend thing ! Thanks in advance.
