  1. Mostly me and does that work for your u values etc then ?
  2. Yes missing DPM etc there. Also on the outer there’s a membrane but would that go below ground ? (Backfill) to the top of the trench. I know this bit is basics but I’m trying to gauge the cost/ value of the insulated system vs standard. Surely if the slab had enough EPS below and butts into the internal ICF the heat has nowhere to run away ?
  3. (is this an ICF question or a foundation question ? both really ? Ok, so 2 options under consideration 1 - Insulated slab , KORE or Jackon or similar. Then off we go with ICF ... 2 - Standard trench with insulated slab prob with UFH in the slab, ICF coming off the concrete strip. (as per Nudura drawing) option 2 is simpler and therefore cheaper. Will I get a cold bridge issue ? Are the benefits of using insulated slab worth the extra cost ? other things to consider ? SE is steering towards 2 to save me costs, but am I compromising heat and insulation areas too much B6A02_1.pdf
  4. @BotusBuild great post and project. Many similarities with our project. Would love to chat further. Will message you.
  5. yes. A good option indeed. I need to figure out what pieces I need. Still waiting for the quote thanks for longer quote. Confirms my thinking.
  6. keen to know more about your build and how it went with kore
  7. @JohnMo Did you go for large pour or build as you go ?
  8. how’s the build @Vijay ? that’s a new one !
  9. Yes doing that now. But there is so much experience here I want to tap into. Yes I live or die on my decision. what did you use ? Of course you’ve done the hard yards and are now familiar so next one is easier choice. But could also be never again because…. Most here may only do one build but there’s some pro’s about aswell ?
  10. Hey Cost - so cost is always a concern. Quality - obv I want quality. Time - I’ve quit work , I’m living on site and have lots of time (until the wife has had enough of the static!) I want do as much as possible myself. No really myself. Maybe some help to skill up. seems there are plenty of folk here that have been through ICF builds successfully. So tell me which suits me best for the above ? Nudura Durisol Isotex Velox. Isodom2000 Amvic Beco have I missed any ? I’m leaning towards nudura…seems popular, capable and well supported. build is about 320 sqm If you vote please support with a simple why ? thanks
  11. Hi new here and seem to be at your stage in Feb. What did you go with ? How did it go ? thx
  12. can you share more details of doing it yourself ? Is it better to pour as you build (don’t be silly!) or upto a level then pump. Time I have plenty of. Which ICF did you use ?
  13. is there any benefit to putting ASHP in its own little outbuilding ? any issues connecting up ? and then it's not subject to the full blast of any outside cold air, it's getting a little lift and protection ?
  14. i don’t need to go borehole but not aware of ground composition yet. Just comparing performance and costs as standard. GS seems better - more regular , quieter , stable ?
  15. hi I’m starting my build soon and the spec / demands are similar. have you installed your system yet , keen to learn more thx
  16. I’m in the process of choosing air or ground (plenty of field to dig). I know the start up draw is an issue as I have single phase and limited amps. Does an inverter address this ? got a zillion other questions but starting here ??‍♂️
  17. Norman , it is of interest. PM me details. Although I’m not sure which ICF I’m going with now. Think I can be more self sufficient with durisol. But overall price wins so worth a chat
  18. that would look nice. It’s all about the drafts and U value ?
  19. you are almost correct. Appreciate the points as that’s why I’m here ! the design is 95% of what we would do. The 5% really is the personalisation and change of materials etc as we go. I will be going back for minor amends but that should cover it. Things like materials haven’t been dictated on the approval so we have flex.
  20. Agree on bi-fold. Previous experience means I’ll change them. The design and planning was bought with the land. So I will change things to my design and standards. on VAT yes I think the bungalow may have to go. No bad thing.
  21. Yeah zinc will likely change. GSHP - got plenty of space. Why go air ?
  22. Still trying in by to figure out the VAT status. ??‍♂️
  23. Hi All, Here we go ! Have planning approved for the attached. Plan is to be as Eco as possible without going full passive. The main house is new build, the existing bungalow being converted into a garage. Plans are fluid internally, it wasn't our approved design so changes will be made. GSHP , UFH , MVHR , seeming to favour ICF over SIP as I want to do as much as possible myself. Likely SIP roofing. Externally a mixture of zinc (maybe) , render and timber clad. It's off mains so waste plant going in. Full electric , sadly single phase so will struggle until we can get that ramped up. I'm looking to modify the designs to make it as off the shelf as possible and simple to build, for costs and my sanity ! What have I missed ? Thanks Ian
