Anyone used slimlite glass

Hi all,

 

has anyone used Slimlite

 

A friend has an equivalent to a listed building and looking at the Pro's and Con's of placing another layer in and not replacing.

If they are looking at replacement units in the same windows then they may struggle if it’s sashes - I know someone who looked at this route and even the thinnest 4/4/4 units just couldn’t get inside the beads and they are also twice as heavy so the sashes would needed to be re-hung to take the weight. 

 

Any  chance of using secondary glazing instead ..?

10 years back we needed some 4-6-4 sealed units. Several places told us they can make them to virtually whatever spacing you want. You can get them filled with Argon or Krypton to improve u-value but if you go for Krypron you may have to pay for a whole cylinder which can bump up the cost. It can be worth calling around to find somewhere that already has a cylinder from a previous job. 

 

PS: Window companies get their sealed units from a specialist sealed unit manufacturers. Can be cheaper to go direct.

Used it the other week but from a different supplier. Slightly different U Values but more or less the same thing. I had it with Krypton gas and fitted them to existing sash windows. Had to rout out rebates deeper and exchange cast iron weights for lead. It wasn't a bad job in the end but there is better ways to skin this cat. New sashes, smaller moulding and deeper rebate for more standard units (12mm spacer)
