Gulleys on patios

If it is for surface water, a slot drain can look very neat.

Its to connect to the waste from the basin, I'm told its unavoidable.  I have seen some stainless steel covers that might be a bit less bad.

Personally, I don't like to see waste pipes so I've run all of mine internally, but if it's too late for that option I'd fit a low back p-trap below ground level and stick a connector into it (link below) and drop the basin waste straight into it.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.  The waste is through the slab and exits underground.  From the cloakroom basin.  Builder says we need a gulley trap like this on the patio, one side connecting to the basin waste underground, the other to the manhole.  Seems the done thing here in NI.  Which is a shame.
