Glazed panels for veranda

Hi,

Im building a timber veranda with a zinc standing seam roof.

 

I plan to set two glazed panels into the roof above two sets of French doors.

 

I’m considering what type of glazed panels to use. I’ve looked at standard double glazed units, but these seem to come up quite pricy.

 

I’m need two panels - 1100 wide x 1500 long.

 

Could I use just 6mm toughened glass and make a frame? Would this be sufficiently robust?

 

Any thoughts on safe, cost effective alternatives?
