Ed21 Posted Thursday at 23:45 Posted Thursday at 23:45 Looking for a bit of Earthing advice Got a small dedicated consumer unit (RCD/RCBO) whch is gounded by main supply & earth rod. About a metre away is a metal garden lampost which is grounded via the CU supply. Mate thinks it needs it's own earth rod, but it has it's own earth rod via the nearby CU. Not asking to win an argument, just want to know if the existing setup is compliant. Thanks Ed
ProDave Posted yesterday at 09:59 Posted yesterday at 09:59 What type of earth does the main property that is feeding this small CU have? You say this CU has it's own earth rod, so are you saying it has a connection the the main house earth AND it's own earth rod connected? Is the metal lamp post supported by being buried in the ground?

Lampost is set in concrete about a metre deep. Ed Edited yesterday at 11:20 by Ed21
ProDave Posted yesterday at 12:34 Posted yesterday at 12:34 That should all be fine then. The issues can arise with PME / TNCS earthing by the supplier that has a known failure mode that can raise certain dangers if exported outside the house and that does not seem to apply here. 1
